The Running Rebels Community Organization offers on-going programming to meet the unique needs of our female youth.  These programs combine crucial life-skills with educational and recreational activities to encourage positive social interactions and preparedness life situations that they encounter on a daily basis.

Current Programming

The "Girls Night in" is a collaborative effort held at the Holton Youth & Family Center on Fridays (except the last Friday of the month) from 5-7pm at the Holton Youth & Family Center located at 510 E. Burleigh.  The group was formed to create a supportive, intergenerational environment in which women and girls of all ages can come together and share their life experiences with the goal of strengthening our relationships as females; growing and learning from one another.

Each group is divided into two parts.  The first half of the group

(5-6pm) is our group discussion/sharing session.  This group is conducted to mirror a "peace circle".  We use a talking piece to open the group and do a check-in round and after the day's topic has been presented we continue using the circle format to share our stories and opinions regarding the topic.

Topics discussed include:

        -Suicide

-Warning signs of an unhealthy relationship

-How to cope with the ups and downs of life

-Stress and its effect on our bodies

        -Current events

        -Goal Setting

-Females getting along and being supportive of one another

        -Nutrition

        -Exercise

        -Anger

        -Communication skills

        -Coping with loss

        -Self-respect

The second half of our groups (6-7pm) is used for physical activity.

Physical activities include:

        -Aerobics

        -Meditation

        -Dance

        -Kick ball

        -Basketball

        -Dodge Ball

        -Walking

        -Urban Line Dancing

The “Women/Girls’ Sewing Group” is a collaboration with Express Yourself Milwaukee in which women and girls of all ages come together to create sewing projects while enjoying each other’s company through art, music and conversation.  This group meets on Mondays from 5-6pm at the EYM studio located at 3333 W. Lisbon Avenue.

Field Trips/Outings – Several times a year we plan outings that encourage volunteerism, the pursuit of a higher education, and sometimes; just plain fun!  In-state and out-of-state trips are offered to program participants in good standing with the organization, their school, and in the community.
